Exemplo were engaged under a Design & Construct contract to deliver the controlled decommissioning, demolition and removal of a 450 kW wind tunnel and associated infrastructure within Building 37 at Monash University’s Clayton campus. Following demolition, the project expanded to repurpose the space into new leasable areas.

Delivered in a live research environment, the works required careful planning, design coordination and stakeholder engagement to ensure safety, compliance and minimal disruption.

The project required a multidisciplinary approach integrating engineering design, services isolation and precise on-site execution. Exemplo developed engineered demolition methodologies, sequencing and temporary works, including bracing, propping, hoardings and access arrangements.

The adaptive reuse scope included structural infill, upgraded electrical systems and new services such as water, drainage and compressed air, alongside new fixtures to support functionality. Finishes comprised repainting, amenities upgrades and a durable epoxy floor coating with line marking to define work zones, accessways and walkways.
